The Swords Obsessed
Haganezuka Hotaru
Haganezuka has an extreme obsession with making swords. He loves everything about swords and can talk about swords to the extent to which even the swordsmith cannot. This obsession of Haganezuka serves as a comic relief and lightheartedness in many scenes. Because of his severe passion for swords, he can easily become angry and loss his temperament in case of any damage or insult of any sword.
As Haganezuka gets frustrated when a sword breaks, Tanjiro has unintentionally broken 3 swords, which were made by Haganezuka, which had led to a fun banter between Haganezuka and Tanjiro. It’s a loop that Haganezuka delivers a new sword and chases and scolds Tanjiro for breaking the previous one. This gets funnier when his face was revealed in Swordsmith Village Arc. Haganezuka earned a large fan following due to his handsome facial appearance.
The Silent Beauty
Kamado Nezuko
Tanjiro’s Demon Slayer journey is accelerated by Nezuko’s survival. She possesses a strong bond with Tanjiro. The entire show is dedicated to make her a human again and healing the trauma that she and Tanjiro faced after the Muzan’s massacre of their family. The bond between Tanjiro and Nezuko is what keeps them saved from being consumed.
Till the Swordsmith Village Arc, Nezuko remained quiet and didn’t spoke a single word but still the kind and generous nature of hers along with her cuteness made her famous among the fans. She has gained more and more fame throughout the show. Her deep love for her brother and her growing strength as a demon serve as a powerful contrast to what most other demons in the show embody, subverting the usual portrayal as selfish and detached from their humanity.
The Mist Hashira
Muichiro Tokito
Another most talented character on Demon Slayer is Muichiro Tokito. She enjoys the position of Mist Hashira. She had a training of 2 months before becoming a Hashira. Her fighting techniques are based on Mist Breathing and full of grace. Despite her young age, she’s a highly skilled and talented character. However, in the beginning, Muchiro always seemed to be lost in her thoughts and was indifferent to others.
The reason for this cold and distant behavior of Muichiro lies in his traumatizing backstory. She had a twin brother who was killed by the demons. This incident affected Muichiro’s mind and personality. As the story accelerated, Muichiro started recovering from this trauma and completed his journey from a lost, heart broken person to a resilient warrior and became a memorable character of the story.
The Insect Hashira
Kocho Shinobu
Kocho was introduced during a battle with Rui on Mount Natagumo. She is the insect Hashira. She shows herself as a friendly person but she is an evil person. With her outward kind behavior she pursued Nezuko with an intention of killing her which led to a confrontation between Kocho and Water Hashira Tomioka Giyu, while Tanjiro tried to escape with Nezuko. Her pursuit of Nezuko was quiet frustrating as she remained calm, and nonchalant during the entire chase.
When her backstory was revealed, it turned out that her parents and many loved ones were killed by the demons. The outward calm and friendly behavior of hers was a way of dealing with the pain she had when she lost her loved ones. After a heartfelt conversation with Tanjiro, she has become more interested in helping Nezuko. She is a classic character with immense strength and resilience.
The Sound Hashira
Uzui Tengen
Tengen is the love of ladies of the show as well as the fandom. He’s one of the most handsome character and has three wives. He’s also the Sound Hashira of Demon Slayer. This character is a fusion of power, bravery and dramatic flair. Even after retiring from Demon Slayer Corps, he still maintains his striking appeal and impressive character.
But as they say, “Looks aren’t everything.” Same goes for Tengen. He has not gained all the popularity on the basis of his looks. He is a beloved character because of his resilience and impressive fighting techniques. Tengen starts off a bit distant in the Entertainment District Arc but quickly grows close to Tanjiro. He plays a key role in defeating Daki and Gyutaro. His guidance during the Hashira Training Arc helped in recovering from the trauma of losing Rengoku and shows his strong sense of kindness and morality.
The Water Hashira
Giyu Tomioka
The Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka is a major character of Demon Slayer. He has been portrayed as a serious, calm and composed person outwardly but his heart is full of guilt and regret. He considers himself unworthy of the position he has as the Hashira and remains in a constant fight with his own emotions and feelings. Giyu also possesses a tragic backstory in which he has survived multiple demon attacks.
Despite the cold, distant and serious personality of Giyu, he’s a top-ranked member of Demon Slayer Corps. He has profound expertise in swordsmanship and Water Breathing techniques and remains dedicated to his responsibilities. He also played a pivotal role in the beginning of the series and saved Tanjiro and Nezuko and also guided Tanjiro in his journey of becoming a Demon Slayer. His personal growth and quiet dedication over time defines him as a major character of series.
The Forgetful Warrior
Hashibira Inosuke
Like Zenitsu, Inosuke’s character is also a fusion of goofiness and seriousness. The most funny trait of Inosuke is that he keeps forgetting Tanjiro’s name and calls him with wrong names like Tontaro, Monjiro or Gonpachiro. These misnaming is always funny and never gets old. His energy, passion and love for fighting and protecting his friends at all costs makes him a true, loyal and dedicated friend of Tanjiro and Zenitsu, even though he doesn’t remember their names.
About Inosuke, he can fight with two swords at a time. This unique fighting style of Inosuke is liked by many fans. His design matches his wild personality perfectly, from his Beast Breathing technique to his intentionally damaged swords and shirtless look while fighting demons. He is tenacious, fierce and stubborn character and a formidable fighter against the demons.
The Annoying yet Brave One
Zenitsu Agatsuma
A close companion of Tanjiro Kamado is Zenitsu Agatsuma. A habit of Zenitsu which is not liked by many people is the habit of screaming. He is not as brave as Tanjiro and panics even at the thought of confronting any demon. But what makes him a admirable character is his dedication to his responsibilities, his strong sense of duty. The fans were left in shocked state on discovering his actual power and capabilities.
His fear and panicking often adds a comic relief to many moments. On one he’s loud and even annoying sometimes but at the same time, he’s incredibly fast and powerful enough to even defeat the demons while he’s asleep. His extreme fear, followed by moments of bravery when he faints makes him an unpredictable and funny character.

From the unshakable resilience of Tanjiro Kamado to the quiet resilience of Nezuko, the increasing courage of Zenitsu and Inosuke, each character has it’s own properties and capabilities which contribute to a unique layer of the storyline.
